Bioeconomy Strategy for Austria

Title: Bioeconomy Strategy for Austria

Funding source: Federal Ministry for Climate Action (BMK); Federal Ministry of Agriculture (BML); Federal Ministry of Education (BMBWF)

Implementation period: 05/2018 – 03/2019

Country: Austria

Description:

A lighthouse project of the BMK, BML and BMBWF for the implementation of the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) is the Austrian bioeconomy strategy adopted by the Council of Ministers in March 2019: Bioeconomy pushes the replacement of fossil resources (raw materials and energy sources) by renewable raw materials and thus makes decisive contributions to the decarbonization of the economic system. Against the background of positive environmental and climate effects, sustainable consumption and production methods are also addressed. To align with the SDGs, guidelines have been developed to address potential conflicting goals and to leverage synergies with other policy areas. Building on the strategy, an action plan for the bioeconomy is being developed, which will concretize the identified fields of action with measures.
