Title: Innovations in oyster mushrooms
Country: Hungary
Description:
Hungary, Kecskemét-based Pilze-Nagy Ltd., a family-owned enterprise established in 1991, specializes in cultivating and selling high-quality oyster mushrooms. With a strong emphasis on quality, the company's fresh oyster mushrooms meet stringent requirements, allowing them to be sold not only in domestic markets but also in the expanding markets of the European Union. Pilze-Nagy operates its own refrigerator truck fleet, enabling distribution to various countries, with Germany being the primary market, followed by Austria, France, England, Belgium, as well as increasing demand from neighboring countries such as the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania, and Croatia. Wholesale companies and supermarket chains are the company's typical trading partners.
In addition to mushroom cultivation, Pilze-Nagy is also environmentally conscious, operating a biogas plant that processes approximately 7,000 to 9,000 tonnes of organic agricultural material annually, including mushroom cultivation waste, liquid swine manure, and maize silage, to produce 1.2 million m3 of biogas. The biogas is then converted into power and heat, with a portion used for the company's own needs, including heating the mushroom tents, and the excess power being fed into the grid. This sustainable waste management approach exemplifies Pilze-Nagy's commitment to integrating environmentally friendly practices into its operational processes. Pilze-Nagy Ltd. is also proud to be a member of the Hungarian Bioeconomy Cluster, showcasing its dedication to promoting a sustainable bioeconomy.
