BIObec Knowledge Hub

Title of the project: Preparing the creation of Bio-Based Education Centres to meet industry needs and boost the contribution of the bioeconomy to societal challenges

Acronym: BIObec

Funding source: Horizon 2020

Implementation period: 09/2021 – 02/2024

Description:

Unlocking the full potential of the bioeconomy and its value chains requires a systematic and collaborative perspective for the development of new skills, educational approaches and organisational solutions to provide education and training services.

The BIObec project aims to build bridges between the bio-based industry and the education system by interlinking universities, innovation labs, and R&D centres with industrial actors and regions. In order to achieve this, the project proposes a holistic framework that merges the traditional idea of an education centre, with that of a knowledge hub.

The EU-funded BIObec project will develop a comprehensive and flexible framework consisting of multi-level Bio-Based Education Centres to address the present and future needs of the industry and the surrounding ecosystem at local, regional, national and international levels. The project will design six pilots covering a wide geographical area in Europe related to the different topics associated with various value chains and institutional contexts. BIObec will identify the diverse regional needs and deliver tailored design, financial assessment and government plans for educational training centres and lifelong learning programmes. It also develops collaborative tools to maximize the synergies between them at the European and international level.
