Leveraging education to unlock the EU bioeconomy's full potential

Title of the project: Leveraging education to unlock the EU bioeconomy's full potential

Acronym: BIObec

Funding source: BBI JU (Horizon 2020)

Implementation period: 09/2021 - 02/2024

Stakeholders invovled: Academic institutions, unversities, innovation labs and R&D centres, industrial actors, innovation entities, policy makers

Description:

BIObec aims to build bridges between the bio-based industry and the education system by interlinking universities, innovation labs, and R&D centres with industrial actors and regions. In order to achieve this, the project proposes a holistic framework that merges the traditional idea of an education centre, with that of a knowledge hub. BIObec will establish the framework for the development of  multi-level Bio-Based Education Centres (BBECs) to act as knowledge hubs bridging the gaps between academic institutions, students, innovation entities and policy makers.

BIOBEC will clarify the needs of the different regional ecosystems and will provide detailed design, economic and financial assessment, governance plans for the educational training centres, as well as plans for life-long-learning programmes. It will also develop collaborative tools to maximize the synergies between them at the European and international level.

The network of partners will pave the way for implementation and replication of the BBEC, in order to boost the contribution of the education sector for the development of the bioeconomy.
